Celtic Rebel's latest piece "Afraid to See, or Afraid to Speak" highlighted the word "thrive". A word that bubbled up here in the Underground Stream when Barack Obama uttered "together we thrive" during the Phoenix/Tucson ritual of the Gabrielle Gifford shooting.

Like in a dream, I look back now to the Ides of March and see how frightening the initial vision was to behold.

In the light of the Qabala these verses could hardly be clearer: Jesus is not speaking of all the apostles, but of Judas whom they think he has chosen by mistake. However, he knows that he has chosen him to fulfill the scriptures concerning Ben-Adam. We know come to the dramatic denouement and in quouting it I will substitue a more adequate expression for the deadly, the destructive word, "betray".

Here again the text is so clear that it cannot be misunderstood if we do not inperpret it willfully in such fashion as to infer from it the opposite of what it says.

In spite of two thousand years of theology, the only one with whom Jesus communes is Judas, and however bewildering for the minds that can only function one way, the direct effect of that communion is that Jesus introduces Satan into Judas.

And now having materialized Satan, Jesus speaks to him as a master to his dependent: that thou doest, do quickly!

John XIII, 28-30: Now no man at the table knew with what intent he spoke unto him. For some of them thought, because Judas had the purse, that Jesus had said unto him, buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or that he should give something to the poor. He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.

None of the eleven were aware of what was happening. We know that they were half asleep, or mesmerized, or probably overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of energy that was to shatter forever the foundations of the human mind.

The most decisive words of any myth in any time had been uttered. And now had come the moment of suspense.

And those words, for some of those men, so deeply slumbering, have meant "go and buy cakes" ... Moreover it was night: What a time for such errands!

But John is now aware. He, so near his master, as actually to be touching him, must feel the tremendous vibrations. What is it that he sees? How does he know? Many years later when dictating his gospel to his disciples, he stated that Satan entered into Judas. Was it a conclusion? A knowledge acquired at the end of his life?

We cannot answer these questions, and they are not relevant, our real question is: this suspense is not of time, therefore it is now, here, facing us and in us. Do we see it? Do we feel it? Do we understand it?

Here are, in us, standing face to face, Jesus and Judas. Who are they? What are they? And we hear Jesus giving his order: What you are to do, do it quickly, and John has just told us that this order is given to Satan who has taken possession of Judas.

Have we emptied our minds of all the infantile ideas and pictures of "devil"? Have we deeply integrated every myth and mythology? Are we actually inside the inexplicable mystery of all that exists? If so, we can understand and rejoice: John XIII: 31-32.

Therefore when he was out, Jesus said Now is the son of man glorified and God is glorified in him. If God be glorified in him God shall also glorifiy him in himself and shall straight away glorify him.

We can no longer be deterred by the real meaning expressed in such a symbolic and archaic way: the fact has been stated already: he that receives the one that Jesus sends receives Jesus and receives that one that sent Jesus. It is clear that Jesus sends Satan. So he who receives Satan receives Jesus, hence he receives God.

In terms of traditional religion this statement, in spite of it being so clearly written in John's gospel is monstrous and frightening.

In terms of gnosis it is the statement of a simple fact: there is only One energy, only One life, only One movement. All is one and one is all. Almost on the very same day that the Uncle Samael's Supreme Court said corporations need a greater voice because they are persons, they also said the detainees at Guantanamo are not persons. This house of war, filled with eater and eaten, is strangely lit from on high by an oil, that lights so as not to enlighten, but to stupify. The chef eats the victory cake which in reality is donuts bowing down, down, down to a story that enchants the doughboys and ensures the chefs dough.

Would there be this warlike feast if the doughboys didnt serve the chef's desire for dough? Dont worry doughboy afterall its all in your head and that delightful morsel in your mouth doesn't exist. Having not written for awhile...its time to do something, anything, merely to move the grease on the wheels.

"Of the nearly 150,000 coalition forces presently in Iraq, 99.9 percent of them perform their jobs magnificently every day," Chiarelli said. "They do their duty with honor under difficult circumstances.
"They exhibit sound judgment, honesty and integrity. They display patience, professionalism and restraint in the face of a treacherous enemy," he continued. "And they do the right thing even when no one is watching. Unfortunately, there are a few individuals who sometimes choose the wrong path."
Unit leaders will get a slide presentation with training vignettes they can adapt to their organizations. The training package emphasizes professional military values and the importance of disciplined, professional conduct in combat, Iraqi cultural expectations and the second- and third-order effects of actions that are contrary to professional military values, officials said.
"As military professionals, it is important that we take time to reflect on the values that separate us from our enemies," Chiarelli said. "The challenge for us is to make sure the actions of a few do not tarnish the good work of the many."

Mars crater resembles a 'happy face'
PARIS, April 12 (UPI) -- Photos taken by the European Space Agency's Mars Express craft show Mars has a crater that resembles a "smiley face."
The face in the 143-mile wide Crater Galle was first noticed in photos taken during NASA's Viking Orbiter 1 mission on March 11, and seen again in infrared color photos taken by the Mars Express.
Since successfully attaining orbit Tuesday, the orbiter has returned photos showing the crater's interior contains parallel gullies on its southern rim -- a possible sign of liquid water running -- and its interior has also been shaped by the action of wind, the BBC reported.
Once the orbiter has descended to its lower mapping orbit, the cameras will be able to pick out objects just under three feet across, ESA officials said.

Why a Hairstyle Made Headlines

When Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) summoned the media to Howard University last week to tell her side of the story in an altercation with a Capitol Police officer, she assumed the traditional news conference position behind a podium and a bank of microphones.
She stood there wearing a coral-colored jacket and dangling earrings and raising the serious issue of racial injustice. But it was impossible not to stare at her hair. As your plainspoken mother might say, it appeared to be standing all over her head.
McKinney, perspiring lightly, talked about having been stopped, touched and disrespected by the officer. The congresswoman, who is African American, suggested that the police officer, who is white, had engaged in racial profiling. He has alleged that she struck him with her cellphone.
The incident evolved into a hullabaloo. By yesterday she had apologized on the House floor, expressing her "sincere regret" over the incident. She still may be prosecuted for her part in the dispute.
Aesthetically speaking, it was not one of McKinney's better moments. Her hair, which she had for years worn in thick braids, seemed to be in a limbo between a polished Afro and a head of funky twists. Had the humidity gotten to it?
In an investigation into her personal styling techniques, a call went out to her Washington office. McKinney started wearing her hair loose in January, according to spokesman Coz Carson. When asked whether the new style had been done by a professional or by the congresswoman herself, Carson shouted, "That's a woman's question!" Which is to say, he did not know the answer, nor did he respond to a subsequent e-mail assuring him that the question was asked in all seriousness.
Hairstylist Christine Kendrick, who does not work with McKinney, provided a few general insights. As far as she could tell, McKinney's new style is a "twist-out." "You can keep the look for about three days," says Kendrick, who owns Artistic Expressions Natural Hair Salon in Camp Springs.
"But if it gets wet, it's just all over. . . . And when it hits the elements, it dries out." At the news conference, it looked as though McKinney's twist-out had passed its expiration date.
In January, at a commemoration of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in Atlanta, McKinney was at the pulpit in Ebenezer Baptist Church. Her hair was loose and a flattering shade of brown. It spiraled out and away from her head in a mane of tight coils. It was an example of the kind of controlled chaos that defines a fresh twist-out. It looked good.
Everyone has a bad hair day, whether it is straight hair that goes limp, curls that turn frizzy or kinky hair that becomes unruly. So it would be reasonable to think that McKinney's hairdo should not have elicited anything more than a shrug or a knowing and sympathetic whisper among black women, "Girrrl, did you see her head?"
Instead, talk turned ugly on blogs about her news-conference hair. It became the impetus for all sorts of racially driven insults about her locks and their natural texture. A black woman's hair is an easy, timeworn source of racist mockery. It has become an exhausting cliche of self-loathing whether it is kinky, hot-combed, braided, locked or chemically relaxed. (Indeed, plenty of black folks see all kinds of dire race-traitor undertones in Condoleezza Rice's smooth, controlled cap of hair.) A black woman's hair is a bottomless source of inspiration for essays, books and documentaries.
But for McKinney, hair is part of her politics.
And dismissing queries about it seems a bit disingenuous, since so much of her public persona, from the moment she arrived in Congress in 1992, has been based on her hair. Up until this year, she wore it in two thick braids wrapped around her head -- often held together by a large bow -- despite suggestions from her own advisers to change it. It was a hairstyle sometimes seen on elementary school girls, but rarely on professional women. The braids made her look as though she should be hiking up the Alps wearing a gingham dress and carrying two milk pails.
Most women tend to choose a hairstyle based on some combination of its flattering effects and ease of maintenance. Susan Taylor, editorial director of Essence, for instance, wears braids that suggest sophistication and polish. McKinney's agenda seemed to combine ease with something else entirely. The style seemed calculated to portray her as the underdog. It was purposefully out of fashion. Aggressively not slick. Ostentatiously humble.
Anyone who has the smarts and the tenacity to be the first black woman elected to Congress from Georgia clearly understands the visual politics of wearing milkmaid braids and gold tennis shoes into the corridors of power. Her choices drive home the point that she is exceptional. She rolls hair, clothes and race into a tight ball. And it becomes impossible to talk about one without getting tangled up in the others.
Among the many talking points repeated over the past week was the suggestion that the police officer did not recognize McKinney because she had swapped her signature braids for a loose -- and much more flattering -- style. She countered that even though her hairstyle was different, her face was still the same.
"Katherine Harris, Nancy Pelosi changed their hair. The thing that doesn't change is the shape of your nose, your eyes, your forehead," Carson said.
It doesn't require much of a leap to think that the police didn't see the details of McKinney's face. To think that they saw only blackness and braids. Without the braids, the "blackness" didn't belong; it wasn't familiar. It was undistinguished and suspicious.
But McKinney also made her hairstyle into such a symbol that it was hard to see the person behind it. Who could notice the cheekbones, the nose and the smile with the loaded distractions of that washerwoman crown of braids?

In October of 1939 amid the turmoil of the outbreak of war Hitler ordered widespread "mercy killing" of the sick and disabled.
Code named "Aktion T 4," the Nazi euthanasia program to eliminate "life unworthy of life" at first focused on newborns and very young children. Midwives and doctors were required to register children up to age three who showed symptoms of mental retardation, physical deformity, or other symptoms included on a questionnaire from the Reich Health Ministry.
A decision on whether to allow the child to live was then made by three medical experts solely on the basis of the questionnaire, without any examination and without reading any medical records.
Each expert placed a + mark in red pencil or - mark in blue pencil under the term "treatment" on a special form. A red plus mark meant a decision to kill the child. A blue minus sign meant a decision against killing. Three plus symbols resulted in a euthanasia warrant being issued and the transfer of the child to a 'Children's Specialty Department' for death by injection or gradual starvation.
The decision had to be unanimous. In cases where the decision was not unanimous the child was kept under observation and another attempt would be made to get a unanimous decision.
The Nazi euthanasia program quickly expanded to include older disabled children and adults. Hitler's decree of October, 1939, typed on his personal stationary, enlarged "the authority of certain physicians to be designated by name in such manner that persons who, according to human judgment, are incurable can, upon a most careful diagnosis of their condition of sickness, be accorded a mercy death."
Questionnaires were then distributed to mental institutions, hospitals and other institutions caring for the chronically ill.
Patients had to be reported if they suffered from schizophrenia, epilepsy, senile disorders, therapy resistant paralysis and syphilitic diseases, retardation, encephalitis, Huntington's chorea and other neurological conditions, also those who had been continuously in institutions for at least 5 years, or were criminally insane, or did not posses German citizenship or were not of German or related blood, including Jews, Negroes, and Gypsies.
A total of six killing centers were established including the well known psychiatric clinic at Hadamar. The euthanasia program was eventually headed by an SS man named Christian Wirth, a notorious brute with the nickname 'the savage Christian.'
At Brandenburg, a former prison was converted into a killing center where the first Nazi experimental gassings took place. The gas chambers were disguised as shower rooms, but were actually hermetically sealed chambers connected by pipes to cylinders of carbon monoxide. Patients were generally drugged before being led naked into the gas chamber. Each killing center included a crematorium where the bodies were taken for disposal. Families were then falsely told the cause of death was medical such as heart failure or pneumonia.
But the huge increase in the death rate for the disabled combined with the very obvious plumes of odorous smoke over the killing centers aroused suspicion and fear. At Hadamar, for example, local children even taunted arriving busloads of patients by saying "here comes some more to be gassed."
On August 3, 1941, a Catholic Bishop, Clemens von Galen, delivered a sermon in Münster Cathedral attacking the Nazi euthanasia program calling it "plain murder." The sermon sent a shockwave through the Nazi leadership by publicly condemning the program and urged German Catholics to "withdraw ourselves and our faithful from their (Nazi) influence so that we may not be contaminated by their thinking and their ungodly behavior."
As a result, on August 23, Hitler suspended Aktion T4, which had accounted for nearly a hundred thousand deaths by this time.
The Nazis retaliated against the Bishop by beheading three parish priests who had distributed his sermon, but left the Bishop unharmed to avoid making him into a martyr.
However, the Nazi euthanasia program quietly continued, but without the widespread gassings. Drugs and starvation were used instead and doctors were encouraged to decide in favor of death whenever euthanasia was being considered.
The use of gas chambers at the euthanasia killing centers ultimately served as training centers for the SS. They used the technical knowledge and experience gained during the euthanasia program to construct huge killing centers at Auschwitz, Treblinka and other concentration camps in an attempt to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe. SS personnel from the euthanasia killing centers, notably Wirth, Franz Reichleitner and Franz Stangl later commanded extermination camps.

It's name was derived from Tiergartenstrasse 4, the address of the villa in Berlin, once the home of a Jewish family, where the office was situated from April 1940. Created in 1939, the office was initially directly responsible to the Hitler's Chancellery. From September 1941 onwards, it was also responsible to the Ministry of the Interior's Department of Public Health and Hygiene. In 1941, T-4 collaborated with Himmler to initiate a program under the code name 14 f 13, to free the concentration camps of the burden of "valueless lives" (Ballastexistenzen). Such individuals were selected for killing by a board of physicians. Children were not, in general, killed in the death camps under the control of T-4.
